Sword Care

• Always oil the blade of the sword before resheathing it. This will insure no dust or dirt enters the sheath. Clove oil is by far the best oil in my opinion to use for such cleaning.
• If the sword becomes stuck in the tsuka, simply hold the tsuka firmly in your left hand and tap your left arm with your right arm to create downward inertia to shock the sword loose.
• If your blade is composed of carbon spring steel, then use a baking soda and water solution to clean it. If you have a stainless steel blade, 440 or 420, use dish soap and water. Stainless steel is much more susceptible to finger print than carbon and should therefore be cared for on a regular basis. In other words, try not to touch the blade with your bare hands too much; if you do then clean the sword after use. Finger tips are very acidic and can leave permanent stains if left uncleaned over time.
